Colombian pop star Shakira could be facing jail time after being reported for tax evasion to Spanish tax authorities…
A complaint was made to authorities in Spain about Shakira, and since then Spanish authorities have been investigating whether or not Shakira has been avoiding paying tax.
Her finances over four years, from 2011 to 2014, are being investigated by prosecutors. If they agree with the complaint filed at the end of 2017, legal actions will move the case forward.
In 2015, Shakira became a full tax resident in Spain and spends most of her time there. The inspection argues that between 2011 and 2014, Shakira should have declared as a Spain resident and therefore she should have been taxed to the national treasury for most of its income in the world.
It’s reported that Spanish prosecutors could be after Shakira for ‘several dozen million Euros’. This could then result in a jail sentence.
Shakira is yet to comment on the situation.
